Syrian cuisine
is an ancient cuisine. It is a diffusion of the cultures of civilizations that
settled in Syria. In the beginning Syrian cuisine is very much influenced by Islamic
culture, rather Islamic cooking. Ending with the strong influences of Turkish
cuisine resulting from the coming of the
Ottoman Turks. It is many ways similar to other Levantine cuisines mainly Lebanese, Palestinian, Jordanian and Iraqi.
The main
ingredients used in the Syrian cuisine are eggplant, zucchini, onion, garlic, meat
(mostly from lamb, mutton and poultry), dairy products, bulghur, sesame seeds,
rice, chickpeas, wheat flour, pine nuts, fava beans, lentils, cabbage,
cauliflower, vine leaves, pickled turnips or cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach,
olive oil, lemon juice, parsley, mint.
Traditional
meals :
Breakfast: it is a main and important meal , it contains several ingredients
and dishes . Weekday breakfast often including white salty cheeses, olives, olive
oil, yoghurt , jam and a plate of green vegetables like cucumber and tomatoes .
On the weekends others dishes served such as eggs , sujuk ((a spicy sausage
high in salt and fat) and pastrami (brined and dried meat). Breakfast generally
served with tea and coffee.
Launch:
Usually y consists of a single main hot dish (e.g. kafta, mujadara, molokhia
with chicken, Sheikh Mahshi or Syrian broad beans) with Arabic rice and/or flat
bread, salad and pickles.

the most popular food is shawarma (lamb or chicken meat roasted on a large
skewered and wrapped in flat bread with hummus, garlic paste and tahini, with
or without salad and pickles according to your taste.

Hot drink :
coffee and tea are the main hot drink is Syrian cuisine . Syrian people drink a
big quantity of tea and coffee throughout the day.
Cold drinks
include:
Ayran, a
cold, salted yoghurt beverage mainly drunk in summer.
- Syrian mint lemonade (sometimes called Bolo/Polo), made from fresh lemon juice, mint leaves, sugar and water.
- Tamarind drink, made with dried and soaked tamarind and sugar.
- Erek el-sous, distilled from the roots of liquorice plants and generally unsweetened. It has been linked with many health benefits, but too much of it can cause high blood pressure.
When i talk
about Syrian cuisine i remember the taste of dishes that i tried . i recommend
to everybody to try it you will not regret it.
